Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
On a day-to-day basis, the role of a project manager entails activities such as communicating directly with the Client and Contractor, reviewing programmes to follow schedules, updating trackers for aspects like risk, cost, actions, etc. Also working closely with Designers, Architects, Cost Consultants, Engineers, etc.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I thoroughly enjoy my programme that I am experiencing. I feel as if I am supported from all angles of the business and there is always a mentor, manager, buddy, or colleague to answer and queries I may have. The progression is steady but significant.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Skills that I have picked up / developed are:
- Information Management
- Negotiation and Law
- Consultancy and Engagement
- Tendering and Procurement
- Costing and Planning
- Managing efficiencies of construction contracts
- Providing a higher standard of service
- Acting in ways that promote trust in surveying profession
- Acting in integrity
- Treating others with respect

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
Very well organised. This programme has been running for a long time and with large amounts of people and still never fails to meet expectations. Expectations of aspects such as guidance, social, knowledge, experiences, etc are all exceeded continuously.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I support a great level of support. Not only does Mace fund my University degree, they also provide support internally to achieve the highest grade possible, and fund my travel expenses (which as an apprentice is an extremely significant support due to cost of living and salary).
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
There are weekly webinars, forums, multiple educational documents, and much more support that the training provider offers. Also, 1 to 1 sessions are also available for anyone who is in need. University of Estate Management provide an Apprenticeship Outcomes Officer to personally reach out and communicate directly with you.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
My qualification via my training provider definitely helps me perform better in my role as aspects like my theoretical knowledge, contract understanding, questioning ability, healthy communication have all improved since I have been working towards achieving my qualification.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are a wide range of extra curricular activities for everyone at Mace via this apprenticeship scheme. I have been to more social events than I can remember. I am also apart of the Mace 5-a-side football team, that play internally and also against other construction companies.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Mace to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I believe that all aspects of the scheme exceed the level that I would want to receive, and would definitely recommend to a friend as I know that they would be welcomed and guided to be the most successful and happy version of themselves at work.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Mace?
When applying to Mace, don't think that only construction experience and knowledge are principle for being recruited. Applicable skills such as management, communications, organisation, etc are extremely important. Learning specifics regarding construction will come later through experience. Do not be disheartened and avoid this apprentice for that reason.
