Vacation Scheme Review

For the first two days we had presentations from across the team, including on the use of IT, risk, the future of the firm, and from the CSR and Climate Change teams.
I drafted documents for various cases for my trainee and associate supervisors. I reviewed documents relating to various ongoing cases and answered questions, then discussed this with my supervisors once completed.
I met with various trainees, associates and partners to gain greater insight into the firm.

It was highly useful to gain an insight into the kind of work that the firm does, and how this varies by department. I thoroughly enjoyed gaining an insight into the culture of the firm, and this was something which I was able to understand through participating on this scheme which would have been very difficult to understand to the same degree through online research alone.
The firm were very open with the number of roles available and starting dates post-VS.

I developed my time management skills, by completing documents to the deadlines set by supervisors or other members of the team. I was able to learn a lot about the structure of deals in my department and how different members of the team contribute to the completion of the transaction or dispute.
I developed my communication skills by holding meetings with various individuals across the firm to ask questions about their experiences. This was something I particularly enjoyed.

The culture was excellent. Everybody was very friendly, from trainees and apprentice solicitors to associates and partners. Everybody that I met was very keen to help me develop and learn more about the team I was sat in, and I was able to speak to people from different teams and offices throughout the scheme. The culture was one aspect of the firm which I felt really set it apart from other law firms, and which I found very enjoyable about the scheme.

I thoroughly enjoyed the insight. I was able to gain an understanding of a wide range of work which the firm undertakes, and this would not have been possible without the vac scheme. I also enjoyed being given work by people who were not my supervisors as it gave me a broader understanding of the work of the team, and how this can vary between trainees/associates/partners etc. I would recommend the vacation scheme to gain further insight into the firm.
