Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I work as a kitchen apprentice. I currently work mainly on the starters section where i make starters, kids meals and sides. I also do some prep on most days and I complete some other tasks such as emptying deliveries and checking dates in our walk in fridge.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I really enjoy my programme for a few different reasons. I think that the work environment is great and I get on with everyone that I work with because they are all great people. I also enjoy how rewarding the job can feel when people enjoy our food.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have definitely learnt new skills. The other chefs that I work with have taught me knife skills and given me tips on how to handle ticket control or how to cook certain dishes. I have also gained knowledge of food safety.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
I think the programme could be a little bit more organised. I have heard a lot about different opportunities that my training provider offers to chef apprentices but I have found it quite hard to get involved in them as there always seems to be some confusion on how to get booked into them. However, i do think that it is well structured and the online training is clear and easy to access.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I receive quite a good amount of support from my employer. My manager allows me to work on training at work if its not busy and is always willing to get involved in meetings with my learning coach.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
My training provider is supportive as they help me set goals with my training and are always willing to set up a zoom or in person meeting with me if I need help understanding something.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
My qualification helps me to perform better at work as it gives me a better understanding of food safety, nutrition and the do's and don'ts in the kitchen. I am much more aware of the importance of understanding allergies and COSHH due to my qualification.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
I don't think that there are many extra-curricular activities at work. I can only think of quiz night which we hold for our customers but some of my colleagues tend to join in if its their day off.
