Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My role involves the installation and maintenance of various routers and phones. This could be anything from installing an internet router for a company one day, and the going to bring another customers service up the next. No two days are the same, meaning my job role is very diverse.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I very much enjoyed my programme within BT and Skills Development Scotland. I had a great balance of work and study, allowing me to learn the job and what the daily roles involve, as well as being able to complete an IT diploma to a high standard thanks to the support provided.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learned and abundance of new skills since starting my role with BT. Previous to BT I had never had a job role like this so everything I have learned has been new. I have loved learning these skills and I was provided with lots of support for teaching as well as development of existing skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
My programme was extremely well organised. I had routine meetings set up to meet up with my Skills Development Scotland mentor, who provided me with both feedback on the work I had completed as well as providing me with new work and advice of how to complete this to a high enough standard.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I also received a great deal of support from my employer. Monthly meetings were set up with my manager to discuss, progression, goals, and any issues I might of been facing in the work place. This was effective as it allowed me to ask any questions or voice any concerns.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I received a lot of support from my training provider. He always made himself available for if I ever had any questions or issues, as well as providing me with ongoing feedback to make sure I was completing my work to a high enough standard to be successful in my qualification.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
It helped me build a more in depth understanding of the equipment I am providing customers with on a daily basis. However, I did feel that some of the questions I was given were not fully relevant to my job role, and this made it more difficult to collate evidence.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Within BT we have frequent days out within our team. These are great for team moral, as for the most part we work alone, so it is great to see everyone. As well as this we have monthly face to face Team Meetings, allowing us to touch base and have a chat.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BT Group to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend BT a friend as I feel it is a great place to work. The normal day to day is fun and engaging. The support provided is always to a high standard and I feel the compensation we receive annually is very fair, as well as a good pension and career prospect.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT Group?
Keep a good attitude! Half the battle within BT is maintaining a can do attitude towards work and problems. The role involves building relationships with people, who one day could be a point of contact for getting you out of a problem. As well as this it is key to be organised, keep your tools and van neat and organised, this will make your day to day a lot more comfortable and relaxed.
