Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I work primarily in Revit producing coordinated designs of building services.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I really enjoy the work side of my apprenticeship, however I have found the university course to be lacking, it tends not to be very interactive, just reading slides.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Since starting, I have learned about lots of best practices and industry standards in both 3D modelling and building services engineering. I have also began helping younger apprentices for some managerial skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Arup have tonnes of recourses available and are very experienced in taking on and managing apprentices. I was quickly assigned a mentor and regularly have catchup meetings with him, my manager and Uni.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Following on, there are lots of internal recourses and pathways internally to develop skills, my collogues are really supportive and always happy to free up a few minutes to help or just answer any engineering questions I have.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
While I have had some really good lecturers, I have found the majority to be quite dry and communication is lacking sometimes. They are taking some steps to improve and have recently hired a new apprenticeship manager, so hopefully this gets better with some time.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
The majority of the course is relevant and goes hand in hand with my work, but there have been some project management and architecture content that have not been relevant.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
We have a lot of socials and professional networking events to go to. We even have an annual ski trip!

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Arup to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The people are amazing and we have a really chill hybrid working and flexible hours setup so you can work around any personal activities! Employees are really well looked after.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Arup?
Be passionate! We tend to hire people who love what they do and have a genuine interest in engineering and do not feel like you need to be crazy corporate through the interview process.
