Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Development of applications, documentation of software modifications, providing training to other developers, communicating with stakeholders, completing training courses and certifications.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I very much enjoy the programme, it has a great structure with fantastic support to all other apprentices. It also provides many opportunities to work with stakeholders and participate in events and view equipment.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Significant development of programming skills, using industry best practice. How to produce meaningful documentation. Development of communication skills with others, presenting, speaking, etc. How to work effectively as a team using different methods and techniques.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

Very organised, reviews are set in place, you know what you have to do to finish the apprenticeship and what skills and behaviours are expected at the end. Great supporting staff to help through the apprenticeship.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive a lot of support, the organisation has a dedicated team with many roles that are there to improve our schemes and provide support. We regularly talk with our managers and I feel that I am getting frequent check ins to ensure that I am doing okay.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Good support from the training provider, we have an assessor that is set up by them who is there to check that we are on target with our university work and aligned with our normal working role.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Very much so, this is a key point that is talked about a lot, the organisation is very conscious to ensure that normal work and the academic qualification are aligned.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are many networks that you can get involved with and target are easy to do so, there are also lots of sporting clubs throughout the organisation. Social events are frequent within your team as well.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Defence Equipment & Support?
Don’t be afraid to take on takes or opportunities that you are unsure about, I have found that most of the time I will look back and they have been great for my development as a person or professional.
