Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I do desk based engineering with a lot of paperwork involving regulation and dealing with Front Line Commands.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I haven’t regretted joining the scheme since the day I started. I really enjoy the variety and learning opportunities the scheme gives me and the STEM outreach opportunities as well.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
I have developed my communication, presenting skills and explaining difficult concepts to different audiences.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
The organisation of the scheme is hit and miss. The worse organisation comes to changing placements as we usually don’t find out where and when we are moving until late in the day which makes planning difficult for ourselves and the teams we are moving from and to.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I have received a lot of support from my employer on a variety of subjects.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
1/5
Our training providers Weston and UWE have caused me the most grief throughout my apprenticeship and are definitely the worst part of the scheme.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
1/5
I think the scheme should be a masters as thats the minimum requirement for career progression in our business. In four years I haven’t used any learning from my degree once.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There is a great deal of extra circular activities as well as additional training. Opportunities to go to schools to deliver STEM outreach and the chance to go to networking events.
