Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Helping deliver equipment or support like maintenance, design or safety advice for a variety of military equipment.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
Highly enjoyable as it is both challenging and you get lots of different experiences and exposure, and can see in practice what we learn in our degree.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Coding, communication, certification, report writing, presenting.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
Great support at work and clear progression and markers. Learning while working is good and we do the right modules at the right time, however communication between deliverers of education could be better.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
We get apprenticeship support, uni support and supervisor support within our individual placement role. Also the opportunity to join work networks and have a mentor.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
Training provider support is okay in general, but sometimes a bit hit and miss, especially for technical and degree level standard work or queries from Weston college side.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Very well, I see what I am learning in my day to day role and can use my degree knowledge to support myself to deliver my work to the highest standard.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes, our company has many networks and sports teams and facilities. Also teams for individual placements have the same ethos. Apprenticeship can also support and help fund professional events and opportunities.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Defence Equipment & Support to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Many opportunities, getting to learn while working is great and the work we do is really important to help the front line which is rewarding. I have learnt and developed so much.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Defence Equipment & Support?
Research apprenticeships early, they are a great route instead of uni for education and career development, and make sure you apply to ones that really interest you.
