Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I am in the Continuous improvement team so my day to day varies, however I am always learning from other people on the team. I am usually sorting out a spreadsheet in Excel or trying to find out what needs to be improved on in our team. I have a lot of communication internally but with my current role I do not speak to external people often.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I have enjoyed this programme very much. It has given me the opportunity to be a part of an environment that I never thought that I would go into and learn things from people with much more experience than me. Being part of the team has helped with many things and this apprenticeship has set me up for my future.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have developed so many skills whilst working here. These include working in a team, having better communication skills and many other things but I have also gained knowledge here. I have become proficient in Excel, using formulas and calculations, creating a communications site in Share Point to spread knowledge.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme that I am on is very well structured. The Met Office is very supportive of the apprenticeship and will help out if I have any questions or anything that I do not understand. We have a day for our learning with a teacher teaching us online with other apprentices to help us with upcoming exams.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
From my employer I receive a lot of support. If I need help or I am stuck and bamboozled or something I could ask anyone in my team and they will help. My manager is very supportive of me and will teach me many things that I did not know.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
From our training provider we receive a good amount of support. We have a teacher, a lecturer teach us about the subject that we are covering and will answer the questions that we have about the course. We will be set homework of sort to complete in our spare time which helps with my understanding of the subject
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Every week when I am learning something new it helps in my day to day, understanding more of the why things are happening and what will happen if this thing happens is very beneficial. Through my qualification, I feel I am able to perform my role better and improve efficiency.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
Currently no. I play rugby and wish that I could be a part of the team, however due to me playing in other clubs I would have a conflict of Interest and would not be able to play with my club. There are times where we have social events, however due to prior commitments and traveling time I have not been able to attend.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Met Office to a friend?
Yes
Why?
For me it has been an amazing place to work. I have learned and developed skills that will help me in in the future. I have an amazing team that I am a part of who are very supportive and are super helpful. With the hybrid working it has become very easy to communicate with people.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Met Office?
When applying for the Met Office I would recommend that you do research before, learning who the main people are, what the Met Office does and our key values. It is important to portray yourself as confident but not arrogant. and be honest with everything that you say and do.
