Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Looking at a range of data that allows us to complete assessments, write reports and provide solutions for environmental issues. There are 6 month long rotations and each team entails a different scope of work with different standards.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy my programme as it provides me with the professionalism of developing within a workplace whilst also allowing me to have choice over my future pathway- such as what team I would like to be committed to in the long run.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Within my university requirements I must meet a range of knowledge, skills and behaviours that are deemed as useful and expected from a qualified environmental practitioner, These range from professional conduct to commitments to the environment- I feel that I am meeting these and improving upon them daily.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

My programme has a strong structure as it provides us with 4 team rotations that are 6 months each, This allows us to gain an understanding of what each team does whilst also allowing us to explore our personal interests for areas of work.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive a lot of support from my employer. Within my apprenticeship, I am given allocated time out of my working weeks to complete university assignments whilst also having access to libraries.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

We are allocated time during our working week to complete assignments and ensure that we are able to perform optimally within both the workplace and university, and for any extra training that may be beneficial for our development we are encouraged to attend.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I think that there are other courses that would be more applicable to my role in comparison to environmental science such as sustainable development. But I believe that it helps to provide some background knowledge on environmental issues that may be touched upon in some teams.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Arup have a wide range of social and sports teams. I am currently getting involved in the hockey team, but we tend to have socials within our portfolio on a fortnightly basis. There are a range of ways to get involved and this is encouraged across the group.

Yes
Why?
It is an employee owned company where there is a large range of support provided, Their values align with what I see as important and valuable and I am yet to find any complaints about my job, work load and working environment.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Arup?
Be yourself, There is no specific criteria to work in Arup. It is down to your passion and your ability to work within the industry. I have found that being social is a key part in this!
