Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My role is a mechanical design apprentice. On a day-to-day basis, I redraw old drawings, changing specific features and notes. Furthermore, I model existing drawings to ensure all dimensions are accurate and make sure the design is do-able. I often attended team meetings to keep up to date with company news.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
My apprenticeship programme has been enjoyable. I have learnt many on-the-job skills while gaining a qualification at college. The people in my department have been very helpful therefore I have enjoyed working with them. The tasks I work on daily have been interesting, therefore enjoyment has come from understanding and learning different tasks.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
During my apprenticeship, I have learnt new skills and developed skills I believed I already had. For example, communication. Furthermore, work has helped me develop presentation skills. On multiple occasions I have had to give presentations to small crowds. This has helped me gain confidence speaking in front of new people.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The organisation of my apprenticeship has been very pleasing. Once I joined the company, my college was all sorted. The early career team structured my apprenticeship in a way where I will gain multiple different experiences across the business. Additionally, there are programmes in place that allow me to track my progress annually.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
The business offers support in multiple ways. There are several programmes in place for personal support. ie mental health and health in general. I have received support academically if needed. Support is also given when we are learning how to use new computer softwares or how to access new documents.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
The training providers lectures are good and the standard of teaching is high. The lectures make the tasks challenging, but simple to understand and demonstrate all solutions. Help is always received if asked for. Additionally, the college provides tutorial sessions after college hours to help students if needed. The sessions are run weekly.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The qualification I shall gain will enhance my understanding of engineering. The content that I am learning shall help me think about different characteristics when designing different products. For example, the fluid mechanics module I am studying has taught me about pipe bending moments.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are multiple activities outside of work that I can attend. For example every couple of months there are department and business wide curry nights. These allow team bonding when communication is not work related. They also lead to meeting new people. There has been business based football tournaments that have raised money for charities.
