Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I’m currently in 2 year as a welder. My trading programme is located in the weld centre. My day can vary depending on the teams rota, either it be burning or snapping fillets. The welding I’m training on is a mixture of FCAW, TIG, MMA. I also got trained in stud welding. I started all processes by doing down hand pads. Once I was competent and understood the process, I would go onto different positions such as vertical, horizontal, incline, overhead. In fillets and butts.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
As said previously, the programme is great and something I wish I did many years ago.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, Every day is a learning day. I actually love the apprenticeship programme. I’m older but the skills I have learned / developed have been incredible and will enhance my career moving on.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Very organised / structured.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I’ve worked for over 20 years and to date Babcock is the best I have worked for by far. I’m currently off due to having Covid and the protocol for being paid is great. The benefits the company offers is brilliant. I can’t really find any faults with the company.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Again, my supervisors are brilliant and each of the team is allocated 2 hours per week to complete any log reports that need to be done.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
Everything in my training programme is structured and very well presented and is fully needed when welding.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
There’s quite a bit of activity such as visiting schools and stuff. I don’t think there are any sports teams or networking events. There was a team bonding exercise in Hexham.
