Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
The role is a trainee auditor. The activities will depend on the engagement but I had the opportunity to test several financial statement line items including: cost of sales, accruals and intangible assets. Towards the end of my placement I was allocated the responsibility of coaching a junior team member.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I have enjoyment my final placement and my technical knowledge and confidence has significantly improved. The programme allows you to have experience both university life and the opportunity to work in a professional environment.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt how to apply judgement and develop objective client relationships. Throughout my work placement I have had to apply professional scepticism. My excel proficiency has significant improved and I am able to use shortcuts and formulas to improve the efficiency of my work.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme at Reading university is very well structured and well established. Each placement you are allocated more responsibility as your technical knowledge improves.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
There was a lot of support available. My team members appreciated that I was a trainee and therefore spent the time coaching me on areas which I was unfamiliar with. Every employee is assigned a career coach who is able to assist you with any concerns.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Although the course is hard work, the university staff are very understanding. No work is set whilst you are on placement and on your return to university in the summer term you undertake a series of well-structured revision sessions.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The work which I have conducted on placement has helped to consolidate and reinforce the knowledge obtained from my university studies.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
Although during busy season there are less social activities compared to other times in the year, we have weekly industry group snacks and quizzes. If you are required to work late, the team will often order dinner together which allows you to develop close working relationships with your team members.
