Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I provide IT support to the company's customers. This includes maintenance, daily proactive checks, and resolving incidents. I start my days with proactive checks to prevent major incidents later in the day, I check my schedule to see if I have any changes scheduled throughout the day and then try to lower the number of incidents in the queue that I understand how to resolve.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy my programme greatly because I enjoy learning new things and having to think through a problem instead of following a prescribed solution. Working in a team with many experienced colleagues I have a great opportunity to put the knowledge I have gained throughout my programme to good use and use it creatively when faced with complex problems.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
My understanding of IT has greatly improved over my apprenticeship. When I first started I had to ask many questions in meetings and day-to-day work, I am now an asset to the team and can pitch in to discussions I previously would have struggled to understand. I have also greatly improved my confidence and am much more confident with unfamiliar situations.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
My programme is well structured and supported. I have constant contact with my mentor and many courses scheduled to help develop my professional and technical skills. It is a fast paced programme but not rushed with plenty of time to prepare and generous support between every new assignment and training course.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a lot of support from my employer in the form of regular one-to-ones with my boss, clearly marked mental health first aiders, and many training sessions which help me learn workplace safety and conduct. My one-to-ones with my boss cover what he thinks I should work on and how I can do this.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
My training provider provides training courses immediately before any qualifications I have to take for my apprenticeship. They also provide many learning resources leading up to these courses to prepare me for my qualifications including videos, books and online courses which cover the required knowledge at a high level so that on the course I understand more easily when the contents are explained in a more in depth manner.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
My qualification helps my perform significantly better in my role. It helps me understand a large number of the standard abbreviations and acronyms within the industry which previously stumped me. It also provides useful insight in to the conversations I hold with customers and members of my team, especially regarding the more technical aspects of my role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are many types of extra curricular activities that take place. The company runs monthly "Winning Together" days where people are encouraged to turn up to the office and partake in games and other fun activities. There are also many professional networking events afforded to the employees, especially the apprentices and graduates.

New starters have a number of resources to help them with getting situated into the company. There are also many chances for progressions and a very diverse and inclusive attitude.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Computacenter?
I would advise people applying to Computacenter to be themselves. The interview process in very supportive to everyone applying and often carried out by the successful applicants future line manager so creating a good first impression is important but so is be relaxed so that you can both find out if this is the right person for the right role.
