Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My role involves doing a variety of things. As an apprentice i get to experience different parts of the bank and not just my own sector.
My day to day, is a mix between independently working to solve an issue or looking into providing or improving a new service.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy the programme. I feel safe and heard when working at Natwest. I have taken on responsibilities and different tasks that help to progress me further. I have worked with senior members of teams and learnt about their roles and experience. I have flexibility in terms of how I work and when in a way that works for me.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have developed problem solving skills, being able to understand and explain the effect of data, being able to use a variety of new tools, being able to use what I'm learning on the apprenticeship course in my day to day role.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

To be honest my own personal experience of the programme wasn't great at the start. In terms of the introducing us to the bank and our roles, it was great. It was the actual apprenticeship side of things that didn't seem very well communicated. Which led to me having a delayed start. My situation was a special case. The apprenticeship team did also reach out to me and try to fix the issue. The main issue lied with the training providers as opposed to Natwest themselves. Which is why I cant rate them as low. I have now started the apprenticeship fully and so far so good.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive a lot of support from my manager. Besides my manager there is a lot of bank wide support to speak out as this is a safe community for everyone to learn and champion their potential.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The training provider at the start wasn't great at all. it delayed my starting of the apprenticeship. Ity was more the logistics of things that wasn't great

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I think overall it does improve my own way of thinking and adapting to the role. In every lesson we talk about how we can apply it to our own roles.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

This would be one thing that would be great if NatWest improved on. It would be quite difficult to do due to the logistics of the business. There are some networking events but not enough to really say they cover this off completely.
