Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
my role is to ensure that the data centre has 100% uptime and doesn't have any failures by ensuring that the systems we run the data centre are fit for purpose and will remain operational. As I am an electrical engineer apprentice, day to day varies massively whether that is installing new lights or sockets or carrying out maintenance (routine or otherwise) on things like distribution boards, generators, UPS etc.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I have enjoyed the college as they cover all areas of electrical engineering that I might need to know for any job field within the industry. While at work, I have also enjoyed my time and they provide me with extensive opportunities that many companies wouldn't offer, such as changing the course terms to include the HND.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
yes, I have developed my knowledge of electrical engineering through practical tasks at work and theory throughout my time at college doing the NC, HNC and now the HND. I have also developed specific system knowledge for the various systems we have on-site that will be applicable for most workplaces.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
In terms of the college, the course itself is very structured but the college itself haven't always been very organised. At work, it would be hard to implement a specific structure, due to the nature of the job. However, they are always willing to help whenever asked and give us great opportunities as apprentices.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Extensive
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
As much as is necessary but most of their assistance comes for the write up of logbooks for the practical qualification (SVQ 3).
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
It definitely makes me think a lot more about the jobs I am doing and delve a lot deeper into how the systems work beyond the initial replacement/installation/maintenance of it.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
Yes, if you choose to as none of it is compulsory. They also have 3 paid charity volunteering days which is particularly generous.
