Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I deal with the day to day running of establishment, sorting delivery's orders ,FoH, back of house. I also deal with any contractors we have, job interviews and inductions, line cleaning and organising the staff for the shift. I do end of night shift closes and also open the pub and make sure all health and safety precautions are in place ect ect
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

The apprentaship course that I am doing has been hard work but very enjoyable, there has been times its been information overlaod but with the support your given has made it easier to understand and process. I can't say it's been 100% enjoyable because there have been some hard times but I've come through smiling
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Since starting the course last year I had not done much in the way of hospitality work. I am learning new skills on a daily basis, and been able to develop my existing skills and my Maths and English have improved and so has the understanding of the hospitality trade.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme is structured in a positive way and organised so it is easier to understand, there needs to be more communication between Aptem and my employer so everybody knows what they have to do. The Web site I use is well laid out and all modules are in easy to bite size pieces.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

At the beginning of my course myself and my mentor did not understand what needs to be done with there apprentice, not everything was black and white and it took a good 6-7 months before everybody understood what needs to be done from apprentice and employer there is still a few teething problems but nothing that is hard to fix
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

My training provider offer loads of different support if you need it I have zoom meetings with my tutor and also face to face meetings in my place of work to see where needs to be improved or not. Overall the support from Aptem is very good not just the learning side but your welfare is looked after aswell
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Like I said earlier I had not done much in the way of hospitality, so the qualifications I receive at the end of my course gives me a excellent step in stone to advance further up the ladder if I so choose too. What I have learnt so far helps me considerably on a day to day basis at work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are no extra curricular activities where I work which suits me down to the ground because of having two children, with working, learning and been a father takes up all my time anyway. I do my own extra curricular activities to distress, I enjoy doing online gaming which is my release.

Why?
Jdwetherspoons is a good place to work if your not shy of hard work, there is plentiful opportunities to move up the ranks in wetherspoons. No shift is the same on a daily basis but overall the staff are friendly and supportive and lots of banter and don't forget your 50% discount on shift and 20% discount off shift.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to JD Wetherspoon?
If your applying for a job at wetherspoons be prepared to be on your feet alot. Use your initiative when working and not just wait around to be told what to do there is always plenty to do, "time to lean is time to clean". overall wetherspoons is one of the best places to learn the hospitality trade
