The role covers many aspects, there are various responsibilities that can be given to an audit assistant which can come up on an ad-hoc basis if not working on a client.
Some responsibilities include testing and sampling financial statements using data provided by the client, verifying bank balances and preforming bank reconciliations, proof reading and collaborating with your team to deliver an audit report for a client.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

The programme at Crowe is an accelerated one, which puts heavy academic pressure on the individual which is balanced very well in the initial stages of the programme itself which allows for adjustment to the different way of learning. The added benefit this brings is the higher allocation of time for practical work experience.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

The nature of work puts a lot of reliance on Microsoft Excel, developing new skills in this area was an essential part of the job including DataSnipper, VLookup, and Data Cleansing to name a few. The role also teaches you how to use audit specific software such as Inflo and Caseware for carrying out audit related tasks on working papers.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

Crowe UK has a very well structured apprenticeship programme with multiple intakes throughout the year, however you become a member of a cohort which allows you to integrate with your team much better and allows for knowledge to be exchanged more effectively. There are also tailored in-house training sessions not provided in many other firms.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

There is a lot of support, and the levels of care are really high. The managers ensure that your personal wellbeing is prioritised and they are willing to make adjustments to make sure that you succeed. There is plenty of staff that one can reach out to from the Buddy Scheme to ones appraisal manager or line manager, there is always someone to check in with.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Kaplan is an outstanding training provider and has very well structured lesson plans for both classroom and virtual teaching which is a benefit especially for the virtual lessons. They also offer 1-1 sessions with a tutor should you require it as well as a chat support system which is very effective at answering small urgent questions.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The qualification has both practical and theoretical aspects, both of which are interrelated, the theory teaches you the necessary building blocks which are used in day-to-day work scenarios. It builds a toolkit without which it would be much harder to learn new skills such as understanding how and why financial statements are prepared in certain ways.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Crowe UK offers a great onboarding experience, with training courses encouraging team building and work events such as luncheons and staff parties to encourage wider office networking. There are also sports teams with both football and netball teams available in the London office. There are also lots of charitable events that one can get involved in throughout the year.

It is less about experience and more about people skills and your core values, the firm wants to employ people who fit within their values which is reflected by the supportive staff throughout the firm. You don't have to be the best at what you do, the firm is here to nurture those skills, what's more important is showing your true personality and brining yourself to the office.
