Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
My role as an intern involves assisting my colleagues in the audit. Day-to-day this involves working through assigned EGAs, checking my emails from the client or anything forwarded from colleagues. Monitoring and being responsible for my own Connect requests is another task I am responsible for.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
2/5
I enjoy the programme when I can work through problems with others. I gain satisfaction from using my problem-solving skills. However, at times I do feel the learning curve is very steep for an intern.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have developed my time management, teamwork and excel spreadsheet skills. On my second placement I now understand how important it is to manage my time in order for me to handle several tasks at once. Teamwork in booking time with busy colleagues and shortcuts in excel.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
Very well organised. We learn all our content for the year in Autumn term, followed by training in December before work placement during Spring tem. I do feel that exams/assessments are too close after placement however.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
I receive support from several groups/individuals. These include buddies, flying start champions, university contacts such as lecturers, and my career coach.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
A fair amount. Our course materials are provided by ICAEW as part of the course which alleviates a lot of financial burden.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
Somewhat well. The qualification is grounded in a lot of theory in a lot of detail. However, my role day to day usually involves a lot more practical and judgemental decisions instead of theoretical ideas or strict rules. However, the qualification does allow you to understand the context behind your work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
There are sports team available, however I don't know if it is open towards Flying Starts. There are team socials held, but this depends on each team. There are professional networking events during placement.
