Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My current placement is in equipment management helping to run 3 contracts which all provide support to naval platforms. My day to day responsibilities include the following: orderbook management, responding to customer queries, attending contract meetings, ensuring 100% delivery performance, chasing late deliveries, chasing debt, attending college and completing essays.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy my apprenticeship at Babcock despite it being stressful. It's a great company to work for as they really value their employees. There are lots of opportunities on my scheme such as completing my exams and then finishing the apprenticeship and being able to be in a full-time position.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
• Improved communication skills

• Problem-solving
• Negotiation
• Wider understanding of project management
• Use and understanding of new software such as IFS
• Professional conduct
• Quality assurance training
• Finance training

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
There are lots of opportunities on my scheme such as completing my exams and then finishing the apprenticeship and being able to be in a full-time position. We have monthly apprenticeship meetings to discuss current issues and there is a clear pathway for our future.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
As much support as required. We allowed a day off work a week for our college duties. We have regular apprenticeship meetings to see how we are getting on. We are allocated a mentor and a buddy to help us for anything a line manager can't. All employees are willing to help with essays and any issues in our placements.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
SGS college hold sessions every three weeks which cover the content for the exam. The sessions are interactive and detailed. Our college assessor is very helpful for essay submissions and checks in with us regularly.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
It's helpful having more background knowledge of project management such as a project scope and life cycle. I like that I can apply the work I do day to day to textbook theories and processes.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes. Social events such as work nights out or team bonding events are held. I attended a team building event at Celtic Manor with other apprentices which was nice getting to know others in the same position as you. Babcock has clubs such as a book club, networking groups e.g pride, gender imbalance, neurodiversity etc.
