Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
My Job role is to practise making machines parts using basic machines, I slowly move up to more advanced jobs and the techniques of how to do them as the year progresses and also with each passing year, I will continue to do this until I am considered a qualified machinist
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy the programme as it is very inclusive and helpful towards becoming a skilled engineer! The teaching and mentoring is very useful and adaptable to the work I will/am doing! All the staff are happy to help and are very friendly so I am very much enjoying the program

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learned many exciting and useful skills along my journey at Babcock, to include but not limited to; basic and advanced machining techniques, have fitting skills, speeds and feeds, I have developed my own knowledge of the tools I already knew how to use and ones that I did not know

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The program, although as good as it is, I feel it could somehow be a bit more structured at some point, in the first year it is clear what you’re doing but after, it feels a bit lost sometimes when there is no work available due to back logs, it’s no one’s fault it just happens
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I receive plenty of support from my employer, my manager is always on hand to help me out and is very supportive of outside work I may have to be done in work time which is a massive bonus! Any questions I have always get answered img with any problems, so a lot of support
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I get loads of support from my employer, they are always asking how everything is going and asking and offering any help if I need it, I can always ask someone anytime for help. The older apprentices are the best ones to ask as they’re just done it, so between everyone I get lots of help toward my quals
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
When I am fully qualified I’m sure I will feel up to the task of any job I get set due to the very good training I am being given, my role as a fitter will be easier because of this when I do become qualified to work on my own
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
1/5
There are no extra activities to do here, that’s the one bad thing about the Company, they even. Stopped the Christmas party, I’m guessing to save money! It would be nice if they could organise a few more things to do through out the year for us to do

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Babcock International Group to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It is a very good place to work and the pay scheme is good for a young person to be in a good wage in no time at all, the shifts are very nice, as are most of the people! There are few wildcard ideas at some point but there union normally shut them down
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Babcock International Group?
Try to have a knowledgable background of tools and working with them, that helped me out a lot and I don’t regret doing it before hand! Go in with open mind and don’t be afraid to ask questions or get help from anyone, If you do all that then it’s good
