Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I work for Barclays as a Business Analyst and have recently started my apprenticeship following 4 years working in the bank's customer service team. On a day to day basis i conduct analysis and write requirements for the business to assist them with change within the product technology division
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
The apprenticeship within Barclays has been great. My apprentice leader is always supportive and my line manager is keen to support me with learning new skills and putting my training into practice wherever possible. The apprentice provider and the training sessions i go on are always interactive and the student support team are especially helpful

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt so may new skills! Prior to this, i had no experience around business change or any experience working with senior stakeholders. Through the apprenticeship I have learnt everything from conducting gap analysis to how to work with key stakeholders from the company and how to build relationships with them.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme is well structured. QA use a platform called BUD to deliver the training and this gives a full structure of each assignment so you know what you need to do and when. My line manager then supports in putting this into practice at work and pushes me to use my new skills.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Barclays is a very supportive and culture driven employer. I am always encouraged to challenge myself and to attempt things on my own so that i can learn skills faster. Barclays themselves do lots of networking events for me to meet other apprentices as well which i find really useful.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
QA have a student support team who have been great with me as i am dyslexic. I always receive good quality feedback from the team for my work to allow me to improve and get higher marks. they also engage well with my line manager so that she knows where i am up to also
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
My qualification is helping me to gain the experience and the skills that i need to excel at my job role. I am apply to apply the new skills i have learnt on a day to day basis and this helps build relationships with fellow stakeholders as i am able to complete my role to a high standard
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
At Barclays there are so many networking and social events! We constantly have events such as chocolate making, summer bbqs and festivals at my workplace. There is also lots of opportunities to network at breakfasts and meet other people within your area or the wider teams. We also have networks for the LGBTQ+ community and other similar ideas

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Barclays to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would thoroughly recommend Barclays to anyone looking for a new career. The level of support and drive that every employee has makes it a really special place to work. It is a vibrant and fun place to work but you also learn so many skills and gain such great experience
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Barclays?
I would give everyone the advice of being themselves. If you are invited to an interview day it is so important to show your natural skills whatever they may be. Be versatile, often you may be asked to step out of your comfort zone and it is important that you see the benefit of this
