Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I am a Duty Manager. This involves activities such as stock and inventory management, handling customer queries/issues, performing cash up and providing change to tills if needed during the day, ensuring POS e.g posters is correct, organising the tasks of other staff, handling/signing for deliveries
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy the programme quite a lot. I enjoy the learning through work aspect, as I am a practical learner. I enjoy the fact that i can move at my own pace through the content.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I've developed my existing organisation and time management skills in my role. I've learnt new skills such as how to perform cash up, inventory management, and pick online orders. I've developed my communication, people and problem solving skills significantly through interaction with customers and staff.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

I think it is well organised and structured. It helps that it's structured around my role so I can learn by doing my normal tasks. I think the off the job work aspect is great as it allows me to incorporate unexpected tasks into my learning.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive good support and encouragement from my employer and my manager. I feel they value the programme and feel it is a positive thing for staff to do.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I receive good support from my training provider. My advisor is always available to answer any questions that I have about the programme and support me with any issues. I have been able to take a break from learning due to difficult family circumstances and come back to it easily.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I feel it helps me a lot as it helps me to understand how I can adapt and develop my skills to perform better. I feel that it also provides me with knowledge about communication & people management to better handle situations with customers and colleagues.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are social events organised by work such as area parties. There are also opportunities to do charity activities during charity week. There are the talking shop meetings which do give an opportunity for social and professional networking between different stores.

A good work atmosphere, good opportunities to learn and develop new skills professionally and socially & a good supporting environment to do that in.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Iceland Frozen Foods?
Be prepared to be flexible and adaptable as you will be asked to perform a number of different tasks and deal with unexpected situations. Be open about any skills you want to develop. I would encourage people to focus on the transferable skills they have.
