Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Working on different projects within the company but mainly working on Submarines. I use the requirements from the MOD and break them out using our work systems to create plans that in the execution phase of the project, production can then carry out the task, as they have all requirements needed.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I do enjoy the programme it has provided me with a lot of new skills that I didn't previous had, I feel like there is always help for me but I also gain responsibility for tasks I carry out. I enjoy being apart of a team and having both in person and virtual interactions.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Yes, I have leant how to use new systems within the workplace such as planning software and software that links into providing all the information required for planning. I have also improved my communication skills as I have had to present to a room full of people on multiple occasions which I hadn't previously done.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
I think at the start of my apprenticeship, there were few issues linked to both the college and Babcock, which led to us having a large amount of work needing to be competed later on in the year. It has got better in recent years as we know receive notifications of where our next placement will be although sometimes its close to the date of moving which can be stressful.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I receive a lot of support from the section I am in, especially as I am coming towards the end of my apprenticeship, there's an appreciation that I will go into the section once I have completed my end point assessment so they are keen for me to take on as much information as possible.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
During my time at Plymouth city college, it was a mixture of support depending on the person providing the training at times it was very useful and I felt like I learnt a lot on specific topics and other topics I felt I had to rely on previous knowledge learnt in the work area.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
1/5
There are some topics that link into my workplace such as health and safety but I feel this is an area for improvement as after my first year I don't feel I was better off by completing that first year then I would have been going straight into the work area rather than going to college for a year.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
There are Babcock golf days which I hope to attend this year as I have recently started playing, the team do go out together to try and improve bonding within the team which I attend. I also am on linkedin which allows me to see how my colleagues are doing both post and present.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Babcock International Group to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I think it would give them a real insight into defence and the amount of maintenance that goes into keeping submarines at sea. They've allowed me to further my knowledge and gain valuable skills which I can take through with me in the future if that is at Babcock or elsewhere.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Babcock International Group?
I would advise to research the company and understand what service they provide to the customer because a lot of this comes up in interviews and its important to understand the company you are applying for. They don't restrict you and if you want to learn then the possibilities are endless so if you want to progress you career I would apply.
