Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I am still at the start of my apprenticeship so to begin with it has been a lot of getting used to the systems and the rules within BT. I have filled out lots of spreadsheets relevant to my project and been around the weekly calls in order to get insight into what the project is about and how it is going. I have been involved in both internal and external calls which have allowed me to widen my network of people.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
It's been slow to start so I haven't been overloaded with work which has been both beneficial and not. It's been beneficial due to the fact we have had time to come into our roles, get to know our team and breath however I am finding we are just getting to doing work now and its been difficult understanding things as people are expecting we have knowledge already.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have developed my people skills and gained more confidence in speaking and meeting new people. I have done this through meetings that I have been a part of as well as being in the office environment and making effort to speak to people who are not part of my team. I have also gained knowledge in telecommunications which I didn't have before I started at BT

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
With the training provider it is structured well, we have monthly lessons with the relevant work to complete before and after and the website is clear to use and allows you to understand when the due dates are. on BTs side being such a big company there is some work that required evidencing but a whole different team does it so we haven't been able to get the required evidence.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
There certainly is support there however I'd argue we could have more, there have been times when we have struggled and we don't really know who to turn to. At the start we didn't get the frequent interaction with managerial personnel which made us feel as we were left a bit in the lurch but its starting to look up now.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
They are very good at responding on time as they have a 24hr window however the feedback is generic and we have noticed between our team they quite often copy and paste the feedback meaning it isn't individual to us, this makes it difficult as we don't have specific targets to work towards as all our work is different yet we get the same feed back.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
I don't believe anything that my training provider has given me so far has been beneficial to my role, both through the fact that I haven't done much project work whilst at BT and also because I feel as though the work that QA give is not narrowed down enough and in big companies like BT where there are different teams for things its difficult to get the relevant evidence.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are lots of different networking events and activities that BT host. In the 'better workplace' offices you'll find there are events on every week if not multiple times. I am in a smaller office so the events are less but as a team we make sure to go out for socials and get some out of office bonding time.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BT Group to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend BT to a friend. Although my start here has been slow I believe they are a good solid company to work for and give support when it really matters. If I found this role wasn't for me they'd find a way to move me sideways rather than me leaving.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT Group?
Some tips or advice I'd give when applying for BT is to remember their key values, simple, personal, brilliant. As well as this I'd advise being yourself and being confident. There are a lot of applicants so you have to stand out as worthy for BT to have. Make sure you remain calm if it comes to interview processes and remember everyone was once in that position, see it as a conversation rather than an interview.
