Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My role as a Technology Degree Apprentice in the Innovation & Data team involves writing, modifying and running SQL scripts that effectively automate revenue testing. I produce results from my scripts and then present these results back to core audit teams or clients. I also join a daily call to help others fix bugs in their code.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I do really enjoy my programme as I feel I am able to enjoy a good balance between uni life and work. This is because in years one and two of the programme we are at uni for the whole year and then we have a full year out working.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have developed my communication and presentation skills through my presentation work I do to core audit teams and clients, as well as communicating with my team members on daily calls. I have also improved technical skills such as my coding in several languages - these include SQL, Java and Python

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
My programme is very well organised and structured in terms of the apprenticeship side. At the university, I have found that some modules are not very well organised and therefore I have struggled with some of my modules due to a lack of organisation from my lecturers but other than that it has been good.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a lot of support from my employer. I have regular check ins with my career coach who is very helpful and makes me feel confident to ask her anything that I may need. I also feel comfortable in asking my team members for help as they are all so kind.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
I do not feel as though I receive as much support from my uni. As my first two years were during Covid 19 I felt very distant from any help and did not feel I had somebody to turn to for support as easily as I do at work so this was a struggle.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
My qualification definitely helps me to perform better in my role. I am studying Computer Science so this massively helps with the technical side of my job and writing scripts and debugging code. Group projects have also helped me develop my communication and presentation skills ready for a work environment.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are always extra-curricular activities going on at work, from sports events, to days out to meals out to charity events. There seems to be something for everyone to get involved with. However, as I am very busy with my own commitments outside of work, I don't often take part in these.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend PwC to a friend?
Yes
Why?
PwC has been a great company to work for. The salary has been good and along with all the extra benefits, this combines to make it a great package deal. The culture is much as you would expect from one of the Big Four so just be prepared for that.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC?
The advice I would give is to be confident and be ready to both give and receive feedback as this is the quickest way to develop yourself and to help others develop. Show an interest and willingness to learn and make it clear that you are a team player and this will help massively.
