Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
We would have coffee breakout sessions in the morning to network with other interns then have daily activities of networking with partners, associates and trainees, as well as sessions with the graduate recruitment team. We also took part in a team simulation activity.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
The scheme provided great insight on the different levels of lawyers which are involved with the firm, as well as the way in which commercial law firms work as a business.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I developed my commercial awareness through the business simulation activity. This simulation also built upon my teamwork and collaboration skills. The networking throughout was also a great chance to build confidence and develop communication skills.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The company culture was very friendly and lawyers of all levels were happy to chat with us and answer any questions that we had. The trainees also reflected the view that senior lawyers were always happy to help during their training period.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I really enjoyed the insight and I felt as if I fully grasped the culture of the firm by the end of our virtual visit. Everyone on the scheme was very friendly and it was great to meet other students from different universities. The scheme was a useful mix of information, skills workshops and also some fun too.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to CMS
I would say to fully research the firm's sector groups and culture. I would also read up on current commercial topics in the news/financial times etc.
