Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Client correspondence, client meetings, record requests, bundles, court correspondence, payments, arranging conferences
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I love it! I love my employer, my team and the variety of work I get. My relationship with my training provider could be better

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
So many! Everything I do on a daily basis is a new skill or a skill I previously had but that has been developed

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
Well structured. I am coming to the end of my program now, and in the beginning it was a bit strained, but now everything is good and I’m looking forward to the future.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I have weekly catch ups with my paralegal colleagues and my line manager, as well as the weekly catch ups with my hub. I have monthly one-to-one meetings with my supervisor and quarterly meetings with my apprenticeship manager.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
I had Meetings every 12 weeks with my line manager on my coach and meetings every six weeks with just my coach
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Achieving disqualification will allow me to progress further into the firm and further into the legal industry
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Our teams business development is largely sports centred and I participate where and when I can. I attend watcher sessions with some of my office colleagues every other Monday to support those with disability in sport.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Irwin Mitchell to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I love my team and they all made me feel incredibly welcome despite being considerably younger than everybody else in the team. Everybody around me is approachable and I know who I can go to when I need help.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Irwin Mitchell?
Research the firm you are applying to! And be yourself! Your interviews etc don’t have to be centred entirely around the legal industry!
