Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Each day can vary based on what's going on within the workshop or whether I am at college. The engines that come into the workshop can be very different so I learn lots of new things about different engines, and college helps to build other skills like bench fitting or working with electrics.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I am really enjoying my course, learning new things regularly and working with great people. Going to college has allowed me to make some good friends. I have always enjoyed working on engines and having little projects of my own, and what we do at work fits perfectly with what i enjoy to do.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt multiple new skills, such as building an engine, although I am not able to build one by myself yet, I am confident with the majority of the parts uses and where they would go. I have developed my team working skills by working alongside the other apprentices and colleagues.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
My typical working work would consist of 3 days at college and 2 days at work. This works very well as the course I am studying is Mechatronics which is a very intensive course, so spending more time at college in the first year develops my skills and allows more time to work on college work to get it to a greater standard.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My employer is understanding that the course is very heavy especially in the first year so if we need any extra time to complete college work we can. The apprentices including myself have a catch up where we discuss any issues that we are having and if there is anything that they can do to help.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
At college, when we get set work, our tutor would go through the questions explaining different aspects of the topic. We would also do practical tasks regarding the topic which helps as you can explain what you done and if there was any issues. Also, if we are at college our tutors are always around somewhere so if we have any questions we can ask.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
At college we learn multiple skills including, Electrics, Bench Fitting, Welding and Mechanical Maintenance. These different subjects help me to perform better in my role as if there is issues at work I can understand what is causing them and how to over come them. For example, if there was a bracket where the weld had broke, I would be able to correct it through my learning of welding at college.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
