Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My role within Cummins is the UK and Europe Travel Apprentice. My role involves supporting employees in multiple business units, across the UK and Europe region. Some of the tasks I carry out on a daily basis include travel queries from employees, supporting with the Cummins Corporate Card and Purchasing Card Programme, and also auditing expenses in Concur. I also assist with running and sending month end reports to the relevant business units; in addition to, collating and validating BU billing data from our suppliers.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy my apprenticeship at Cummins. Cummins is a great place to work as it is a forward-thinking global business. This means there are significant opportunities to further your skills and experience within its global economy. Working within the CBS Travel Team, I have gained enthusiastic knowledge about travel within Cummins, and how they support the different business units in Europe. Cummins is extremely inclusive, and all employees are friendly. Furthermore, as part of my apprenticeship, working towards my Level 3 Business Administration qualification helps me to transfer my knowledge, understanding, and skills of administrative practices to my role at Cummins.

My apprenticeship has helped me both learn new skills, and develop existing skills. These skills include:
Communication skills (on calls and emails), Using my initiative and problem solving, Attention to detail on all tasks I carry out, Self-confidence, Ethics and integrity, Good judgement skills, IT Skills (especially Excel), Working independently and within a team, and being flexible and adaptable.

Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

My apprenticeship is very well structured. When you initially join Cummins, you take part in onboarding which helps you learn about the company. Within my role, I have one to one meetings with my line manager to review my progress, and raise any issues I may have. I also have regular meetings with my college assessor to make sure I am on track to gain my Level 3 Business Administration qualification.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive outstanding support from my employer on all aspects of my apprenticeship. My employer checks to see if there are any issues I may be experiencing, and if there was, I feel comfortable enough to share with my team, and also HR. Everyone is super supportive, and my team always try their best to answer any queries I have.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

My training provider delivers a good level of support. My tutor is very knowledgeable on Business Admin, and will support me when I have any questions on the subject area. My college assessor makes sure I am supported at both work and college, and I would feel comfortable raising any issues if they were to occur.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

My business administration qualification helps me improve my awareness of business practices in a global company. I have gained further knowledge on laws and regulations within the workplace, which I can implement into my role such as GDPR. It also shows me how I fit within my organisation, and how my role contributes to Cummins.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Cummins have a scheme called EEEC. This is where employees complete a minimum of 4 hours (within working hours) to give back to the community. For example, volunteering at a food bank, or planting bulbs in a nature area. Cummins also organise professional networking events to meet other employees, and learn new skills.

Why?
I would recommend Cummins as it is a global, forward-thinking company with excellent opportunities. It is a great employer, and Cummins demonstrates all of the important values required in today society. They value all employees, and I have had significant support from managers, my peers, and HR. They have excellent opportunities to develop and move around the business to further your career, and learn new skills. Overall, I could not recommend a better company to work for.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Cummins?
I would advise that you just be yourself throughout the application process. I would suggest researching about Cummins, especially their values and mission. Having this knowledge on the business will increase the chance of being successful, and will guide you on what Cummins are trying to do. Cummins are looking for enthusiastic individuals who are eager to learn and hard working.
