Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I am a technician in the Laboratory of Cummins so my job role includes building turbos, tearing turbos down, running and fitting up the test cells and general bench work and machine shop working.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy the different tasks and problems that are encountered every day and completing them to my best abilities. Cummins also has a good team of people to work with this makes the job enjoyable.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Some of the new skills that I have learnt are using machinery in the work shop such as milling machines, lathes and balancing machines. I have learnt how to build and tear down a turbo and how to interact with engineers to complete a work request.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
This program started really organised when I first started however as i have progressed, this structure and organisation has dwindled.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
2/5
The support received from my employer was okay. when going through the issues with the first college, they should have spotted it sooner so that I did not have to complete my first year again at a different college.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
The support from my training provider is exceptional. They set up monthly meetings with me to check my progress. They set up periods of time after the college day to complete the work. They have lines of communication in which the tutors are available at all times.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The qualification helps me perform so much better in my job on site because without the knowledge and understanding that the training provider gives then I would not have been able to carry out projects in which project management necessary.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are many extra-curricular activities for example EEEC this is where you go and volunteer in the community. There are many different social events that can be celebrating Women in engineering, different religions and cultures.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Cummins to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It is a really good environment to work in and there are a lot of opportunities to better yourself. There is also good support with pensions and life after work.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Cummins?
The advice I would give is to make sure you know the history of the business and the general knowledge of how a turbo works.
