Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Shift runner looking after a team of individuals and looking after the guest experiences of my customers. My role also involves working and serving food, managing health and safety and food safety as well as scheduling and training of all employees. I also monitor sales, labour and waste figures as part of my shifts
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I loved completing the apprenticeship program. It kept me busy, I gained lots of new skills and developed existing skills too. Everything I learnt I was able to use within my role and it helped me to develop the manager that I am today and is helping me progress onto new and exciting roles

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
During my apprenticeship I discovered lots of new and exciting things that I was able to put into my role. I really enjoyed learning about leadership styles and different pieces of legislation that had an impact on the job that I do and how I do the job. I also enjoyed completing a business project and putting that into place within the restaurant

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
My program was really well structured and organized. All the units were really interesting and everything flowed nicely. The units were broken down and separated as well which was great because it meant that you were not spreading too long looking at 1 subject area, so sometimes it gave you a break and a chance to learn something new
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My employer was really helpful while I was completing my apprenticeship. They offered me loads of help and support and I had a few different people that I could receive help from which is great, especially as people have different levels of knowledge and experience. I have even been able to get help and support from my people team which has been invaluable.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
My training provider is really helpful when it comes to my apprenticeship. If I ever need any help or additional support they are really responsive to any messages. I receive regular meetings and chats with my training provider and this is great because it really helps me to stay on track.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
My qualification really helps me perform better in my role because it’s relevant and I can adapt the material to my role. All of the topics that I learn I am able to dig deeper and learn how these areas are done within McDonald’s and how they relate to the role I perform on a day to day basis
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
I have done lots of different fundraising for RMHC and Macmillan within my restaurant. We have held coffee mornings for our regular customers and we have done lots of fundraising with families for RMHC. I have also completed cleaning days at the hospital to show my support for the families that use the houses.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend McDonald's to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I really enjoy my job at McDonald’s. I started as a crew member and I am now currently completing my 3rd apprenticeship. I have had great training and knowledge delivered and have had my chance to gain promotions and work alongside great people to learn the skills that I have today
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to McDonald's?
To come into the restaurant with an open mind. Sometimes they are really busy and it can be a little daunting, but we have great teams of people working within our restaurants and they are friendly places to work. There are so many opportunities for people to get stuck into as well
