Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I replenish stock. Do stock inventory. Pick onlines. I’m a cashier. I lock the store when the manager or supervisor isn’t in. I cash up the tills at the end of the night. I make sure stock is rotated and on the shop floor. I deal with complaints and queries.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I love a challenge and this is definitely a challenge, taking me out of my comfort zone.
I love learning. I like working alongside my mentor. I like the fact that I have a deadline for certain modules and the mentor stays in touch with me finding out how I am doing.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt more of communication skills whilst doing the level 2 apprenticeship. I have learnt that you should empathise with the public. I have learnt more about the retail business as a whole. I have learnt more about my customers whilst listening and engaging with them. I have also learnt more about the retail sector and the work load that comes with it whilst being a duty manager.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme is very structured. I like the layout of the Aptem system. Much better than the old style. I like the fact that it’s put under months so you can see how much you have to do. My mentor is very well organised so that helps too. I like the monthly meetings too to see how I am getting on.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive what I need from my manager and supervisor. They are always on hand to help me when needed. Christmas was quite hard as it was busy but now I should be able to get the help and support I need with the apprenticeship and my on site learning too.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I get as much help as I need from my training provider. I passed my level 2 with a distinction thanks to my training provider with her help and her knowledge and helping me by doing tests and talking through what I needed the help with. She was always on hand to support me.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I learnt a lot from my level 2 and I feel that working towards level 3 it will give me the confidence I need to make myself a better person in the role of a supervisor. I’ll be able to provide more for my team and it’ll help my manager too having someone who knows more and will support him in the running of the store.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
I’m not too sure about this. Not that I have heard anyway. I think it will be a good idea to actually have extra curricular activities for Iceland employees. It will help to give the team a boost in their skills and motivation towards bettering the team whilst working

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Iceland Frozen Foods to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I have worked for Iceland more than 20 years. I have carried on working there because the way they care for their staff and support their staff when needed. The atmosphere is mostly positive and friendly. The customers are friendly and happy when they shop with Iceland too. We offer good services in store and online.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Iceland Frozen Foods?
The workload is hard going. There is never a full moment in store or with the company. Make sure you’re ready for hard graft. It is very busy during the holiday seasons and changeovers are hard going too. The positive side is that you can work your way up to becoming higher in the company with support.
