Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
On a day to day basis i manage payments for my projects. I check if we have records for the job we have been invoiced for and if the value is accurate to what we were told it would be. If this is correct i pay the invoice. Toqrds month end we work on our CVRs where we see how much costs we have taken and how much revenue we have brought in so we can work out our overall profit
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
i very much enjoy it. I am someone who learns better while they doing the supposed thing they are learning, so this experience allows me to gain the deeper understanding of what i am doing. I do not like uni, i am just someone who doesnt like thr education aspect but its only one day a week and very ,uch enjoy the actual work aspect

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Definitely. I have improved my skills in excel. This is a programme where a lot of our trackers are on so ii have gotten very familiar with how it works. I have improved my skills when it comes to emailing clients. I used to be anxious about sending emails in case my point wasnt put across accurately, over time i have worked on this with colleagues helping me when its comes to structuring emails to send to out clients

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
I would say its fairly organised but it doesnt work. We have quarterly reveiws that include you, your manager and your tutour from uni. Basically going through what have learnt, what you will be trying to do by our next review. Its organised in the sense they tell us everything we need to have accomplished by the end out our apprenticeship, and my company also has their own separate goals i need to achieve, but on my training providers part, although they outline what they want us to do, its disorganised and all over the place at the same time
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
10/10. So much support i can praise it enough. There is one specific collegue i work directly with and she is amazing to me. Always providing me with extra support, i am not afraid to ask her any questions. even if ive already asked her alot. Just allows me to deepen my understanding and make sure i actually know what i am doing
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I am only in the beginning of my studies so theres not much support i can be given at this point in time. However, part of my qualification is to gain my chartership as a QS, my employers have this yearly programme they run, which you can join, where they talk you through the process of gaining your chartership and help you out with interview prep etc. so that would be helpful towards the end of my studies
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
i am unsure. At the moment everything i am learning has no correlation to what i do at work, its more engineering based. However we have recently started a law module that goes through contract laws etc. which would apply so much more to what i currently do at work
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes. So for apprentices that joined my company in 2022, they do get together for networking events and to build that relationship with each other. sometimes those hired in the 2022 graduate jobs also join in these events so it allows you to network with those who have more experience than you and can pass on their knowledge

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Skanska to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Its great. There is no other way to put it. There is that constant support, weather its work or school related. They even have support if you are struggling in any way. I felt so welcome when i first joined. It can feel quite daunting at first when everyone else has been there for a while and youve just joined with no experience but they never made me feel left out and gave me that support where needed.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Skanska?
Skanska is one of the best, if not the best, you can apply to. Research the company. They like when you go into the interviews prepared. When you know what they do/what they have done/what they plan to do. Understand the roll you are applying for and how that would fit into a company like skanska
