Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
I assisted scientists with their research throughout the company. I collaborated with other AstraZeneca teams, including a team in Sweden, to discuss projects and learn from them. However, my key role was working on an independent project to establish a particular assay to assist early-stage drug discovery projects.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes, I was given lots of responsibility as I was tasked with an independent research project. I had help from my supervisor and my immediate team when I needed it.

I have developed critical thinking, analytical and a variety of other practical research skills . This placement allowed me to develop a plethora of scientific techniques that will help me in my career as a research scientist.

I made great friends from my team and I enjoyed the lab work I was completing. This is a company I would consider working for again!

What advice would you give to others applying to AstraZeneca
At interview, explain your thinking when answering technical questions. Even if you get the answer wrong explain your train of thought as this will show the interviewer whether you were on the right lines.
During the placement, do not be scared to ask for help from anyone! Everyone was super friendly and willing to help with almost any experiment.
