Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My role is a general sales assistant at Iceland Foods. My role consists of stock replenishment and stock rotation. Alongside this I check the dates across the chilled department, as well as completing reductions. I’m also a cashier when needed, such as during busy periods.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I do really enjoy the programme, it almost feels as though it gives me a purpose, something to drive my career. I really enjoy having that mentor there to guide me through the work but also leave me to my own devices, aswell as being a personal support.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Personally I have developed a lot of self skills, where I have learned to become more confident with more motivation to say no when needed. I have also learned how to be more technical, with using the store computers and answering the store phone when customers ring.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme is extremely well structured with all the components being set out in order, with different months for completion, rather than feeling as though you’ve been loaded with it all at once. You also have reviews every 4 weeks so you touch base.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

Overall, the support from my employer would be much better with the fact of completing the hours that need to be done in store. However over time my employer has grown to the programme and become more forgiving and accepting.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I couldn’t thank my provider enough, she provides me with constant support and reassurance, always checking in to make sure I’m ok with the work and mentally, which can sometimes be pushed aside. She really gives me courage to keep going.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I feel as though with this qualification I have a better understanding of why my job is so significantly important and the impacts my role/job has. With this in mind I can perform better knowing that what I’m doing is vital and not just for fun.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Unfortunately we don’t have any extra curricular activities in our store. Sometimes we will go out for a celebration using our store funds which we win on incentives, however nothing we can really get involved in.

Yes
Why?
Iceland is a good place to work, with wide flexibility based on hours. The company try their hardest to suit all needs and be as diverse as they can. They also pay above minimum wage, with pay-rises available based on positions.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Iceland Frozen Foods?
I would advice others to go in with an open mind as retail is not the easiest place to work, especially in those busy periods. However you will meet great people, with lots of advance’s available.
