Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I am a trade duty manager in Iceland. I have several duties including running the store, delegating tasks to my colleagues and replenishing stock levels on the shop floor. I also oversee stock levels in my store and ensure there are certain levels of stock available for the customers daily.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I very much enjoy the level 2 apprenticeship as it is a great way to pick up new skills such as communication, management skills and how to be more productive. This has proven to be invaluable on my journey through management and will help me as I progress through Iceland.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learned many valuable skills in my time in and out of management. The main skills I have learned that have benefited me the most are social and communication skills such as how to ask a colleague to complete a task I have asked them to do for me.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

My program is very well structured. The way me and my lifetime trainer ensure this is by keeping in regular contact and ensure we communicate regularly. This is shown by regular back and forth calls, zoom meetings and progress check ins. We will continue to communicate with these same methods.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive regular and efficient support from my employer both on and off of lifetime work. I balance work and lifetime work well as I have help from my store manager and the other members of management in my store. Their help and lifetime have been beneficial to my learning.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I receive regular help from my lifetime coach as mentioned before we keep i n regular contact to ensure my work is to a standard we are both happy with. I have been told on numerous occasions if I need help with my lifetime work to contact my learning coach.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I have received a great amount of knowledge from my lifetime work that I would never have gained from just doing my job. It has helped me progress and enhance my work in my store and on my lifetime work. It has helped me vastly in my future career aspirations.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

I am aware of several opportunities I can use to enhance my career outside of work such as new store opens, staff outings and management network meetings. I especially look for opportunities where we can exchange feedback about how we can improve efficiency as a store and a whole team.

Iceland have several learning opportunities for someone with any level of experience. It is a great way to start learning either straight from education or for someone who is looking for a new challenge. This is the place to kick start a career in retail or any other career path.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Iceland Frozen Foods?
Go into it as a blank slate. Every day is a new opportunity to learn something different and all knowledge will help you excel in your career. There is so much to be learned and the best way is to be doing. Embrace every day as a new exciting challenge.
