Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
I work on a major project which includes performing various tasks including reporting and updating management plans using software and cloud based tools. Typically, there will be various meetings with different teams which help with recording progress and there could be requests put in by the client to provide reviews of current works and present data, my work includes using excel and other software to collect, update and sort data.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I have mostly enjoyed my programme and attending university once a week has helped with my confidence as I have gained a lot of knowledge which has been useful. Sometime it can feel as the work is a little repetitive and it is up to the apprentice to keep on asking for responsibility that would lead to better outcomes and further development.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt new skills relating to various management software and recording processes and have developed my excel skills. Working on a major project presents me with an opportunity to learn about modern construction methods and has increased my confidence and communication skills by working with the client and being able to meet their requirements.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The emerging talent team have been great and are always helping out with all matters. I was issued with an apprentice guidebook which contained helpful information which can be useful earlier on. A training timetable was also given which can help plan work. Some projects do take their time to get to know apprentices in terms of introductions and creating development plans but on other projects I have worked on this felt rushed.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
There is a lot of support from the emerging talent team and they will help out. Being a part of the emerging talent community has made the programme enjoyable. Communication from the emerging talent team is also great. Most wider teams will be willing to support you if you have any questions.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
Support from my training provider is not good, often communication from university services is delayed or non-existent which could mean missing out on a lot of important information and experiences. My emails to the apprenticeship team have been ignored on many occasions, which has caused me unnecessary delay and frustration. However my skills reviewer has been helpful by providing me guidance on how to complete apprenticeship documents.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Many of the modules on the Level 4 HNC qualification have helped me to develop my understanding of construction terminology and methods. This has been very useful in helping to understand things on my project and methodology. My knowledge has developed and some skills I have learnt about at university I am able to apply at work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
There are many extra-curricular activities to get involved with. There are many volunteering opportunities throughout the year some teams usually do this together or you can find your own cause. Mace have many networking sessions and you can always find something to do or get involved with if you want to.
