Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My role is associated to creating agricultural products to be exported around the globe internationally to mainly farmers. I maintain and overview substances and chemicals react together to make new products. This is normally a batch process as this is the most efficient way to distribute these chemicals on a schedule.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I really enjoy my apprenticeship as it gives me a lot of freedom as to how I progress. I have to create a balance between learning at work and then the academic side of the apprenticeship like technical qualification (college) and NVQ. If i fall behind on something i can use my time management towards that making sure that i am back on track and spend a bit more time on it.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
I have learnt a vast variety of new skills of which i have never even encountered before and i am still learning today. Existing skills like communication and teamwork are always being developed as these are important attributes to my job role and it is essential for me to always be alert in these skills

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The apprenticeship scheme is well planned and organised. It is efficiently scheduled so that i finish my apprenticeship on time and that i come out of it with the qualifications that i need. I go to work 4 days a week and college once so that my learning is spread equally and i gain as much knowledge as i can.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
I can go to my manager for any reason whether it is for advice on any knowledge gaps or assistance for my competency. I can also reach out to my manger if i have any concerns about work, college or even outside of work the support is always available for me.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
My training provider supports me to an extent supplying the revision materials i need to pass an exam but i don't feel like i can reach out to them if i needed support for any other matter. I say this because the communication is quite poor from my provider as i only get emails and the timing of receiving emails is unreliable.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
I feel like i can link some of the units I do at college to my work but i find some areas of my college work are irrelevant to my workplace. Most of the activities i do at work are much different to my tech qual I come down to my common sense and competency being hands on.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
The learning and development group create team building activities for apprentices to adapt our skills of working in a group. For example this summer we will be going to outward bounds which is a like a behavioural programme for apprentices to come together and work in physical activities in groups to help build communicational skills and how to effectively work in a team.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Syngenta to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It is a great environment to work in and everyone is really helpful and friendly. The company itself is also achieving goals frequently making expansions on site. The company offer benefits to all employees which makes you feel valued. They also look after each individual employee. There is also a lot of opportunity in the company so you don't have to stick to one job role.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Syngenta?
I would say it is a good idea to State your positives and your weaknesses but turn it back into a positive. I would also say to do your research and look further into the company and why you would be a good fit for the company. Finally there is no such thing as a stupid question, don't be scared to ask.
