Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
As a flying start, I would work under the supervision of more Senior staff. I would be given tasks throughout an Audit and I was encouraged to ask questions on what i was doing. I was given more freedom as the placement progressed to further enhance my skills. This would include giving updates of my progress and communicating with clients
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoyed being given practical experience. I felt this practical experience really enhanced my understanding of my learning. The learning at university now feels like it has more of a purpose that I can apply. Alongside this I also enjoy experiencing the university life too. I feel it's an ideal balance.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
The skill i have developed the most would be my confidence within interaction. This could be interaction with clients or team members. I am now more clear with what I am trying to say and able to get across my points. This has been very important especially with the clients.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The programme is structured well. I feel it's clear the progression through the programme to the end result of becoming qualified. I also like how on placement it was organised so we were fully integrated within PWC and not left feeling like outsiders. That said on starting placement the instruction was very vague.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
While on placement we're provided all of PWC's usual support. This provides a vast array of services and support mechanisms. We're given contacts of people from PWC to contact while at University. However, i feel like this needs to be highlighted more and become a more accessible service.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
We're provided with resources from ICAEW. This includes work books, questions books and past exam questions. Away from the exams however i feel there's very little interaction with ICAEW. The University of Nottingham also provides us with all their resources and we're provided a personal tutor.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
The qualification is crucial to the role. The learning for the qualification will cement the knowledge needed to successfully carry out the role. Alongside the exams i feel the 450 days of practical work experience is so crucial in development. It gives a better understanding of all the exam content
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
PWC Leeds provided social events such as quizzes and parties. They also provided us access to the Leeds ball for trainee accountants. PWC as a whole also provide vast opportunities away from day to day work such as being an ambassador for the programme or becoming a buddy to less experienced employee

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend PwC to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I think PWC provides the perfect opportunity to develop. This is because as a very large company they can give you a wide range of experience. Also being so large they can also tailor work to your preference such as giving you clients you're interested by or have previously enjoyed. Furthermore, they provide an excellent flexible working scheme.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC?
When applying to PWC, i would make sure you understand the values of the firm so you know what you're getting yourself into. Furthermore, i think it's crucial to understand what it's like working for the firm. This could be achieved by reaching out to current or past employees.
