Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Supporting and mentoring SEN secondary school female students in a mainstream setting. Working in a behaviour & emotional support building where student can accessing small group or 1:1 support to catch up on academic subjects and interventions. Working with subject teachers to filling in gaps of students knowledge and working with SENCo and other staff to build plans to students
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

Really enjoyed doing some of the more creative assessments and getting a qualification

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Learning about age related development and applying it to students. Learning and reinforcing the importance of safeguarding policies Skills are already learnt but good the reinforce and be reminded of them

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The assessments were structured really well - I clearly knew what assessment were due in and what they required. - My tutor was really helpful giving me a & to do list straight away our meetings Sometimes the portal was hard to navigate but useful to be online
How much support do you receive from your employer?

Somewhat support - I did my assessment during half terms or in my own time as it was not practical to them in work hours due the the nature of the job - I did struggle to make up my off the job hours. However teacher were supportive and positive in doing my observations and letting me attend their lessons
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

A lot of support :) my tutor did "to do" list of our meetings to help with my organisation and emailed me reminding when our meetings coming up, reminding me to update off the work hours . - This was really useful as work can get really hectic
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Going over polices such as safeguarding and health and safety was a useful reminder. - Also assessment based on the curriculum was useful to see the age related milestone and expectations of each year group. More behaviour management and assessments based on scenarios would have been useful too
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

More appropriate for new teaching assistants Organising off the job hours with employee for set time away too
