Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Communicating with management to complete tasks involving risk assessments, testing controls and rolling forward data. Auditing client financial statements, looking for discrepancies and raising them to managers and seniors. Becoming familiar with the accounting systems used by the company and understanding how the company works, following auditing principles such as professional scepticism.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I have really enjoyed my programme so far. It is an amazing way to understand one of the big four accounting firms and gain insight into the working world. It has been an amazing experience to see how the company operates and the seniors have been so pleasant and welcoming.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have definitely developed my confidence during work as I am more comfortable to ask questions and make it clear when I am unsure about something instead of struggling myself. I have also enhanced my technical capabilities becoming more efficient with the systems used in the company as well as Excel.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
I think the programme is very well structured and organised extremely well. Personally, the level of organisation really helped me with the transition between university and placement as there was a lot of support available to us and we were frequently sent updates or reminders for tasks we had to complete allowing me to be prepared for work.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a lot of support from my employer. There is a support system which is made available to us as soon as we join. We have a buddy, a career coach and a Flying Start Champion who are our point of contacts if we are struggling and they are always willing to help
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Working towards qualifications has not impacted much of my work so far throughout my placement as the qualification examinations take place outside of my placement. Despite this, the company has been very understanding of the fact we have examinations to study for and fellow colleagues are always eager to offer advice.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I have not yet received a qualification as this will occur after I finish university. Currently I am studying for some of the crucial examinations, outside of work hours, during placement. The content of these examinations is definitely useful to my role as I can apply a lot of the content to the tasks I complete.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
There are plenty of social activities to get involved with in the company. These include socials, quizzes, culture days and many more. There are always events coming up which are well planned and always live up to expectations. I have not worked at the company for long but even in the short time I have worked at the company I have really enjoyed the social activities/events.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend PwC to a friend?
Yes
Why?
PwC is one of the largest accounting firms and has a global reach. I would recommend it to a friend as the opportunities within the company are endless. The support is invaluable and the work is really interesting. It is such a pleasant place to work and has a very friendly atmosphere.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC?
If applying to PwC, I would say allow your application to reflect your values and see how they align with the values of the company. If they align then PwC is definitely the place for you and you will enjoy it there. During the process I would say to be yourself and focus on your motivation behind joining the company.
