Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Responsible for co-ordinating design and construction teams, I work with a variety of people daily to manage the progress of planned activities. Regular tasks include determining programmes, assessing and mitigating risks, collating and executing contracts and communicating messages to stakeholders. The role is fast paced and varying.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

Mix of university and on the job experience makes for a unique programme that constantly keeps you engaged. With many others on the programme it provides a sense of comradery and builds a strong network of likeminded individuals. Ultimately very enjoyable and a worthwhile experience that you won't regret.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

The role has improved my ability to tailor communication and disseminate meaningful messages. A focus on independent and proactive actions has seen my confidence and competence grown. I now recongise the interdependences of a number of function and see how their efforts contribute to the bigger picture.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The employer has a clear and structured approach to your development. Providing regular reviews, mentors and additional training, there is a clear path for you to progress. The training provider is less consistent and often requires you to act independently. Overall positive.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

The employer has a dedicated team to support you on the programme. A tailored approach to your development is provided that aligns with your training needs and desires. The organisation as a whole is very supportive of apprentices and knows how to ensure inclusion.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The training provider will provide periodic reviews of your progress. They do have permeant resource on hand for you to voice concerns or request help. The training providers operates independently and is often less proactive. They require you to take action into your own hands for support.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The qualification touches on all areas you will face in your role. You will learn the theory behind the actions you regularly undertake and will see different options available when undertaking certain tasks. Th qualification focuses on the 'why' and integrates well with your role which provides the 'how'.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are a range of extra-curriculars to get involved in, from sports teams to charity and networking events. There are communities within the organisation you can join based on interests where you can engage with others and even take on additional roles in the organisation for specific groups or interest.

There is a great opportunity to become a more well-rounded individually both professionally and personally. The employer is keen to support apprentices on their journey and has the structures in place to do so. If you're looking for something to challenge you this programme is for you.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Turner & Townsend?
Be honest. This programme is not looking for complete professionals from the outset but is willing to develop them. Share why you're passionate and how you will ensure that you will bring your passion to the role. Once on board take every opportunity presented to you.
