Overview of the Experience

Please give an overview of what your work experience involved:
5/5
Solicitors from various areas of law gave us an insight into their daily work lives and gave us tasks to complete either independently or in groups. There were also talks unrelated to law, such as personal resilience, responsible business, and commercial awareness.
To what extent did you enjoy your work experience?
5/5
I really enjoyed my work experience, especially the independent tasks such as the lease report. The group tasks were a bit uncomfortable at first, but it became easy to share ideas and discuss the tasks we were given. The solicitors and other members of staff were very helpful and welcoming.
How well organised was your work experience?
4/5
The Forage website was easy to navigate and a great way to display all of the activities as I could easily see what was coming up in the week. Also having the resources, schedule, and links to the calls all in one place made it much easier for me. Even though one of the sessions was cancelled, Pinsent Masons managed to rearrange the schedule and arrange for another informative talk.
How much did your work experience help you in deciding on your future career path?
1/5
I am pretty certain that I do want to become a solicitor, and this work experience solidified this.
Were you paid or reimbursed for this experience?
1/5
No

Skills Development

What training and skills development did you learn from your work experience?
5/5
I was able to draft some legal clauses relating to protective headgear and to complete a lease report. These tasks involved reading Acts (which I haven’t done before) and becoming familiar with legal jargon. Now I also understand more about the process of applying to work in a law firm and I have many useful CV, interview, and personal statement tips.

Company Culture

How much did you learn about the company culture and what it would be like to work there?
4/5
The solicitors who talked to us all told us about their positive experiences with the firm. Although no one went into much depth about the actual firm, it was clear that the solicitors really enjoyed working there. One thing that stood out to me was when a solicitor told us that one of her favourite things about the firm was that the firm has a dress for diary policy, meaning that you can wear casual clothes and be comfortable while working.
Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees?
4/5
Yes
