Overview of the Experience

Please give an overview of what your work experience involved:
4/5
Group exercises (such as the jaffa cake controversy on whether it is a cake or biscuit) and also the legal business group task in which we decided to recall all faulty lotion bottles to maintain publicity and customer satisfaction. I also did independent tasks such as lease reports and statutory interpretation and drafting.
To what extent did you enjoy your work experience?
5/5
I enjoyed the experience to a great extent as it gave me a powerful insight into the life of a solicitor rather than what is merely shown by the media or entertainment programmes. I have learned valuable skills which will be useful to me regardless of the career I decide on.
How well organised was your work experience?
5/5
It was amazingly organised, with meetings scheduled before every task to give us some guidance and support and also the important opportunity to ask any questions. This allowed me to gain advice from people who are in the position I would like to be in. Hence, the organisation was great.
How much did your work experience help you in deciding on your future career path?
4/5
It helped quite a lot as they provided a 'day in the life of a solicitor' meeting in which I learned about the different aspects of law which the firm deals with and what sort of issues they address and the process by which they do so. I also asked questions to the trainee solicitors which was insightful.
Were you paid or reimbursed for this experience?
1/5
No, but I consider the experience payment enough as I picked up valuable knowledge and experience and skills which are applicable to any career even if it is not in legal practice. Hence, this experience has enriched my knowledge and given me the opportunity to meet new people and partake in networking.

Skills Development

What training and skills development did you learn from your work experience?
4/5
Communications skills during the group exercises which also gave me confidence to share my own personal ideas and improve my listening skills when hearing the ideas of others. Also, I gained attention to detail during statutory interpretation and the lease report as I had to identify a particular issue within the contract.

Company Culture

How much did you learn about the company culture and what it would be like to work there?
5/5
I learned lots as they provided a 'day in the life of a solicitor' meeting in which I learned about the different aspects of law which the firm deals with and what sort of issues they address and the process by which they do so. I also asked questions to the trainee solicitors which was insightful.
Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees?
3/5
Yes, during the allocated slots for lunch, there were networking opportunities within the peer group but also with trainee solicitors to whom we were able to ask questions and gain knowledge about what legal practice entailed and how certain issues are resolved within the job. There was also an opportunity to contact the firm about any issues regarding work set

Recommendations and Advice

Would you recommend Pinsent Masons LLP to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The firm has excellent values: providing legal services to those who perhaps cannot afford them such as pro bono work for children and their parents who wish to gain the right to reside in the United Kingdom. They are also a responsible business who ensure everyone feels a sense of belonging and creates a pleasant working environment which is never unhealthy.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Pinsent Masons LLP?
I would advise others who are apply to keep an open mind and not get frustrated if you perhaps initially cannot complete a task, because you should read it through as many times as necessary. This resilience will allow you to pick up the vital skills which can be applied anywhere.
