Overview of the Experience

Please give an overview of what your virtual experience involved:
4/5
It involved a wide variety of talks and activities which taught you about an incredibly exciting range of legal paths to go into. There was also greatly beneficial presentations about ways to get into a legal career from legal professionals who are already trainees or solicitors at a professional law firm.
To what extent did you enjoy your virtual experience?
3/5
I enjoyed it quite a bit and felt it was highly informative however to an extent because the event was virtual it was naturally less engaging than an in person event would be. While some sessions were really interesting, others focused so much on business they had nothing to do with law.
How well organised was your virtual experience?
3/5
Mostly well organised however pretty much every session started a couple of minutes late which was confusing and made me constantly worry I’d gotten the wrong time. I also think some of the time allocations for some activities were either too little or too much by quite a lot.
How much did your virtual experience help you in deciding on your future career path?
4/5
I was already quite set on law and this only reinforced this idea however what it did really benefit me with was realising I liked more business focused law and how much law overlaps with some of my current a level subjects such as economics. It showed I can get a best of both worlds exoerince out of law.
Were you paid or reimbursed for this experience?
1/5
No one was paid for this exoerince because of course you didn’t really provide anything to the business it was more for the benefit of up and coming law students to gain a better understanding of a legal career. As I did not go on the insight day I don’t know if travel costs were reimbursed.

Skills Development

What training and skills development did you learn from your virtual experience?
4/5
I learned a lot about commercial awareness and how important it is for lawyers to not just understand the law but also the wider business world around them to support their clients. I also development my advocacy skills through a number of exercises which required you to work in teams to develop a legal argument.

Company Culture

How much did you learn about the company culture and what it would be like to work there?
4/5
I learned a lot about Pinsent masons and their focuses as a company however as I did not attend the insight day I didn’t actually get to see the office. We learned a lot about what it would be like to be a trainee there however we didn’t pick up much about being an actual solicitor.
Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees?
4/5
Yes there was lots of opportunities and you were constantly meeting people within the business. There was also lunch networking opportunities with the other students which allowed you to discuss your experiences and and tips and tricks for a level. It was also really interesting to meet others as passionate as you.
