Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I was a PMO on Project Impact within the Capital Projects team working to help a client identify costs of disruption related to Covid. I worked on the team budget, submissions and attended client meetings keeping minutes and analysing submission evidence sent from the client to us and creating trackers.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I have enjoyed my time and wish I didn't have to go back to university. The team I have worked with have been so supportive and helpful. I have developed so many skills and can now leave with more confidence in my own abilities and maintain friendships with people I have worked with.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt so many new skills. I have learnt about finance and team budgeting. My confidence has grown significantly. My written and verbal communication has excelled and I am now able to adjust my work produced to suit who I am talking to - be it client or colleague. My critical analysis has also developed.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

Very well organised. CPS is very busy and I was on a project the first day I arrived. There is always something to do and time to socialise to maintain a healthy work life balance. Everyone is working on different things so time management is very important so that we can work efficiently.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

PwC has a great support system in place. I was assigned a buddy who I could go to with any questions or concerns at the start of my placement to help me adjust. I was also assigned a career coach who I would have monthly catch ups with to discuss my goals and how I can develop my skills. On top of a career coach I have a progression sponsor.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I didn't have to work towards any qualifications as I am a Placement Student. However, the team were very open to discussing what qualifications would be available to me as a permanent employee and what routes you have to go down to start and complete the qualifications. This was very helpful for me to get an idea of what the future could look like.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I had to write a monthly diary for the university to update them on the skills I used in the role and how I would develop them in the future. Doing this helped me reflect on the work I produced and how I could strengthen my skills to give a better output.
