Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My role involves liaising with members of my team in the morning, and establishing a plan for each working day. Secondly, I have several meetings with clients to discuss and receive an update on current work arrangements. Throughout the day I work alongside those from outside the company to which we provide a service, and undertake mainly administrative tasks.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I have thoroughly enjoyed my programme, given that there is a great ethos and atmosphere amongst everyone I have met so far. I also feel I have been treated just like any other employee, and many people I have worked with have actually been surprised to learn that I am not a full time employee.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
A major skill developed has been teamwork, as this is required on a daily basis, from team calls in the morning to splitting and delegating tasks. Communication has also been key while working here, as a lot of the day is spent on calls with people who could be right across the globe.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
There is a well-established structure, with a clear path from intern up to managers and directors. There is also a well-structured training process, which involves great ways to meet your future colleagues for the first time. In my case, this was virtual, which is something which may change in the future.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I receive a lot of support in the form of check-ins, calls and emails of encouragement. It has been made clear from the start of the placement that if any problems arise, we can have a conversation with our designated person known as a 'career coach', who can provide guidance and support.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
As I have taken a year out from university, my studies do not resume until I return for my final year. However, I have spoken to several colleagues who have spoken positively regarding the firm's approach to supporting those undertaking professional qualifications. I have found it easy to find and navigate where to find these courses.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
My qualification is crucial in carrying out the tasks required, as it is necessary to have familiarity with program languages used and a general knowledge of systems. Especially given the working from home requirements, IT knowledge has been of utmost importance. Also, basic office programs such as Word and Excel are used daily.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are a vast amount of social events every week, where everyone is involved. I also took the opportunity to get involved with volunteering through the firm, as everyone receives a set amount of days to use per annum volunteering for a charity of their choice. This is actively encouraged throughout the company.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend PwC to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would say compared to other options the business provides an energetic and positive atmosphere for those beginning their career journey. With many options for promotion and progression, it also has many training and qualifications available. There are also many options regarding support if for any reason you cannot complete a task.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC?
I would recommend ample interview preparation as many, including myself, found the process fairly intensive. I would also recommend getting to know as many people as possible, including creating a LinkedIn profile and using the opportunity to expand your networks. You will find that everyone is keen to get to know you and help you out.
