Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I am a data analyst, so I gather data for campaigns and then analyse this data to establish efficiencies and how we as a company can provide better customer experience in an efficient manner to cut on costs and Full Time Employee costs. Managers will come to my team to ask us to review a particular process or department, and we run the campaigns from there.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

The content of the programme itself is interesting and it is broadening my knowledge of the general insurance market. I have learnt about the different types of products and history of the general insurance market, as well as things about the regulators and laws surrounding insurance.
The Growth Company, the apprentice providers, however, have been inconsistent and our tutor left suddenly and unexpectedly mid way through. There has been little to no communication from the Growth Company, and we are apprentices have had to go and chase for answers. Emails go ignored, work does not get assessed, materials have not been distributed in a timely manner.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt new skills in data analytics, with particular regard to Excel, Power Query, Power BI and the different reporting systems we use. We also use a particular platform called Pega, which I have learnt how to navigate and interpret the data from. I have also had to improve my communication skills as I now deal with different stakeholders within the comapny.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme is structured terribly. The Growth Company do not have enough staff to deal with demand, they have not been requesting materials on time therefore leaving the apprentices without textbooks and access to services. Our tutor left unexpectedly and suddenly mid course and the company did not rush to find a replacement. Workshop sessions have therefore not been going ahead, we are missing out on our 121's which should be monthly.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

AXA are excellent and very supportive of the apprenticeship. They happily allow the 20% off the job required learning, and our Training team are supportive and willing to chase the growth company on our behalf to find out what is going on when we have issues. The studying can be self guided, however axa are there to support if needed and where appropriate.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

If by training provider you mean the apprenticeship company, The Growth Company, then not a lot. Our tutor has left suddenly and unexpectedly mid way through our course and the company have not rushed to replace him. The Growth Company are terrible at replying to emails and answering questions, work goes unmarked, support is almost non existent.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The qualification has given me a much broader understanding and range of knowledge of the general insurance market, and therefore I am more able to understand what requirements we have as a company to our customers and to our regulators. This allows me to make more informed recommendations based off the data I analyse.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

The AXA office I am a part of host twice yearly social events for everyone to get together and have a party (restrictions allowing). At Christmas, we have a team half day where we as a team can get together and go for a night out to celebrate. There are AXA-wide networking events and workstreams for a range of topics. AXA regularly host or allow us access to workshops and events/ classes. The office is based in the town centre, so there is lots to do on breaks and lunches if you want.

Why?
AXA have a very supportive culture and really push personal development and career growth. You really are I charge of your own development. The wage is slightly below market average (however still above minimum wage), however we get annual bonuses which make up for this in my opinion. Agents have autonomy to make decisions for the customers best interests.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to AXA?
If you are wanting to develop your career in a positive, supportive environment, then AXA is where you want to be! There are so many opportunities for growth and everyone is really supportive with a fantastic culture. Don't be put off if you are disabled or part of a minority group, as AXA work hard to be an inclusive company with lots of opportunity for minorities and disadvantaged people to be able to share their voices and succeed!
