Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Worked in a team using Java and Angular as a full-stack developer. Received tasks by my line manager, built features, and had meetings. Used technologies such as Git to work together in the team, had meetings quite regularly.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was given low-level tasks at the start to adapt to new environment and set up. Afterwards, I was given the chance to do more work and whenever I finished tasks, I'd work on new ones. They were challenging and fulfilling but I was able to ask my line manager and other colleagues when I needed assistance.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Learnt programming techniques, good practices, programming language Angular. Familarized myself with Git, learnt databases such as H2 and SQL. Working on a team, asking questions, and developed confidence in presenting and being concise with my explanations. Helped me get used to working in a professional environment.

Support and Guidance
How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I received quite a lot by my line manager, supervisor and my team. There was a buddy system but I did not use it that much. Everyone was very kind, helpful and supportive which I appreciated, made me feel comfortable especially as it was my first internship.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Everyone was very kind and patient, helped a lot. Barclays explained their events and societies, as well as all the other out-of-work activities they do which was informative.

What advice would you give to others applying to Barclays
As everyone is very friendly, don't be afraid to ask questions. No need to worry about the work as the tasks are set for interns so they won't throw you into the deep end. It's a very comfortable and friendly environment.
